Fiat Bravo and Brava 4-cycle Petrol Engine Compartment Check during a Roadside Emergency
The following roadside repair manual are intended to guide during a roadside emergency and breakdown of the 1995 – 2000 Fiat Bravo and Brava with 4-cycle Petrol Engine model. Make sure your ignition is off when starting the vehicle checks.
Guidance when your car won’t start and the starter motor doesn’t turn:
- Make sure the selector is in P or N for automatic transmission model.
- Open the bonnet and make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight.
- Switch on the headlights and try to start the engine. If the headlights go dim, the battery is most likely flat. Try jump starting using another car.
Guidance when your car won’t start even though the starter motor turns as normal:
- Check the fuel in the tank.
- Check for moisture on electrical components under the bonnet. Switch off the ignition, then wipe of any dampness with dry cloth. Spray water repellent aerosol product (WD-40 or equivalent) on ignition and fuel system electrical connectors. Pay special attention to the ignition coil siring connecter and HT leads.
Checking the engine compartment thoroughly on roadside emergency and breakdown:
- Check all electrical connections are secure under the hood.
- Check the HT leads are securely connected to the spark plugs and ignition coil pack, where applicable (1.8 liter model do not have conventional HT leads).
- Check the LT wiring plug is securely attached to the ignition coil. On some models the HT leads and ignition coil are concealed under a plastic cover secured by screws.
- Check the airflow meter and/or inlet air temperature sensor wiring connector for security.
- Ensure the security and good condition of the battery terminals.
