The 1998 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Accelerator Cable Check and Adjustment Procedure

Below procedure outlines accelerator cable check and adjustment in the 1998 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport:

  1. Turn OFF the Air Conditioning and lamps. Vehicle should be without load during inspection and adjustment.
  2. Warm the engine until stabilized at idle.
  3. Confirm idle speed is at the below values. Standard value: <4D5> 750 +/- 100 r/min; <6G7> 700 +/- 100 r/min
  4. Stop engine (ignition switch OFF position)
  5. Confirm there are no sharp bends in accelerator cable.
  6. Check inner cable for correct slack. Standard value: 1 – 2 mm
  7. If there is too much slack or no slack, adjust play by following the below steps.
    • Loosen the lock nut and fully close the throttle lever.
    • Tighten the adjusting nut until immediately before the throttle lever starts to move.
    • By loosening the adjusting nut one turn, the accelerator cable play will be brought to the standard value.
    • Fix the adjusting nut with the lock nut
    • After adjusting, check that the throttle lever is touching the stopper.
